In the vehicle-mounted tipper and superstructure industry, a hydraulic system is more than a collection of independent parts; it is a synchronised whole in which every component must operate in complete compatibility. The cylinder’s lifting force is directly linked to pump flow, pump characteristics to valve capacity, and valve performance to tank volume and filtration quality. Procuring these components separately from different sources and combining them in the field transfers responsibility for system compatibility and engineering risk to the manufacturer. The integrated solution developed to reduce these risks is known in the industry as a wet kit.

What Is a Wet Kit and What Does It Include?

A wet kit is an integrated system solution designed to meet a vehicle’s hydraulic power requirement by bringing all main and auxiliary components together in one package. Mechanical and hydraulic compatibility between the parts is verified in advance during the system-engineering phase.

A typical HMLIFT wet kit consists of the following elements:

  • Hydraulic Oil Tank: A storage unit selected in a capacity and mounting type suited to the chassis.
  • Hydraulic Pump: A gear or piston pump selected according to the required displacement.
  • Directional Control Valve (Tipping Valve): The main control unit that manages flow direction and speed stages.

Heavy-duty semi-trailer applications, by contrast, may use high-displacement bi-rotational pumps, high-flow valves and large-capacity on-chassis cradle tanks. This modularity prevents both inadequate performance and unnecessary energy consumption caused by excessive capacity.

Filtration Standards and System Cleanliness

Fluid cleanliness is one of the principal criteria for long hydraulic-system life. Recessed return filters in wet kits are configured for system flow capacities such as 150 or 250 L/min and with filtration fineness in the 25-40 micron range. Capturing microscopic particles in the hydraulic fluid is the most critical protective barrier against premature wear of pump gears, valve spools and cylinder seals.

Auxiliary Elements: The Bodyfix Mechanism

Another important part of the integrated hydraulic ecosystem is a mechanical securing unit such as Bodyfix, which controls body movement while the vehicle is travelling. Used particularly in rear-tipping systems, this rubber-sprung clamping structure absorbs body vibration caused by road irregularities. By preventing relative movement between the body and chassis, it minimises mechanical fatigue loads on cylinder connection points and hydraulic hose lines.
